Web - Interactive web application e.g. Jupyter Notebook
Summary
JupyterLab from UCLA's PICKSC — for plasma physics tutorials and tools.
Description
What it is A pre-configured JupyterLab environment from the Particle-in-Cell and Kinetic Simulation Software Center (PICKSC) at UCLA. Bundles PICKSC educational tools and tutorials in a ready-to-launch container running on SDSC Expanse.
Use cases
- Plasma physics simulation tutorials using PICKSC software
- Educational use of PICKSC tools in courses, workshops, or self-paced learning
- Researchers working with kinetic simulation codes who want a managed environment without local installation
- Demonstrations of how a research center can publish a curated software environment through OneSciencePlace
What's included
- JupyterLab with Python kernels
- PICKSC educational software and example notebooks
- Apptainer/Singularity container — runs identically across compatible systems
Where it runs SDSC Expanse, on a compute node via the Apptainer container runtime. Requires a valid ACCESS allocation on Expanse.
Getting started Click Launch and configure your Expanse resource request. Once scheduled, JupyterLab opens in your browser with the PICKSC notebooks available in the file browser. Start with the introductory notebooks for an overview of the available tools.
